2024 - The Plan

I have failed!

Before my son was born, almost five years ago now, I promised myself that I would remain fit and healthy for the sake of my son.

When he was born, I was 44, when he will be 18, I’ll be 62! I want to be able to run with him, be there for him, not be a burden to him.

So far, I have failed him.

Now to 2023 and my own father is suffering very badly with Lewy Body dementia, he is only 72.

3 days before my dad was admitted to hospital and eventually a care home, my daughter was born.

My dad met her once, but had no idea what was going on, he doesn’t know he has another grandchild.

I now have 2 children and at the age of 49, I need to keep myself healthy and active, I must be there for them physically and mentally as long as I possibly can. The only way to do that is a healthy lifestyle.

I have learned a great many things over the years and although I have not been keeping this site up to date or exercising in any meaningful way, I still have a passionate interest in health and wellness.

This time, I cannot fail.

Lets look at what went wrong

Step 1 - Weight

The Problem - Its an upward trend. Always peaking in the winter. You could argue its due to lack of activity in the cold, dark winter months. It’s not, It’s a bad diet.

I am a junkfoodaholic. I’m a binge eater, especially when stressed. I’m also the kitchen pig and I will eat up all the leftovers, nothing goes to waste.

The Plan - Its simple really, I have to stop eating crap and stop over eating. Easy!

erm, yeah, not so easy is it. I’m usually good at making sure we don’t have bad food in the house, and my wife knows to hide away any chocolate.

My issue is usually my mothers house, the house of treats. Unfortunately, with four grandchildren, her house is always filled with sweets, crisps and junk. Its there that I have to be mentally strongest to resist.

As for being the kitchen pig, I have started to reduce my own portions of food, knowing that the kids will not eat all of theirs. For example, I don’t make myself breakfast, I just eat what they leave. So far, that plan seems to be working

It’s taken me two weeks to write this!

More to come, eventually 🤣
